Explosives are used to open a door at a Dutch museum on Saturday morning, stealing several golden masterpieces. Museum officials said in a statement.
Police received a report of an explosion at the Assen Museum at 3:45 a.m. local time. Upon arrival, officers found the museum damaged and the gold artifacts gone.
The Royal Museum of History's version of the gold coiffure helmet was stolen by thieves.
“This is a dark day for the National History Museum of Assen and Romania. We are intensely shocked in the museum last night. There has never been such a major incident in its 170 years of existence,” said Drrents Museum Director General.
Dutch police
The museum said it would be closed for the weekend while police investigated.
No injuries have been reported and so far no arrests have been made. Authorities suspect multiple individuals are involved. Dutch police said in a statement.
Police say they received a report of a car fire around 4:15 a.m. Authorities suspect the car may be connected to the explosion and robbery at the museum they passed another car near the fire.
Police asked for help from residents who may have footage from the doorbell camera or Dasham between 3:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and asked people who may have seen anything unusual in recent days to contact police.
