That same day, Ferguson launched a series of actions at the FTC to purge DEI-related initiatives from the FTC. As some of those require a Commission vote to be completed, Ferguson said the Commission would consider a proposal to give him the authority to bring the federal agency into compliance with the president's orders.

On Thursday, the FTC approved the proposal by a 2-1-2 vote, giving Chairman Ferguson the necessary authority to do so. Commissioners Rebecca K. Slaughter and Lina M. Khan did not vote.
