Brock Jarvis says he's worried that 36-year-old Keith Thurman will show up for their fight on March 12 due to his injury problems. Jarvis (22-1, 20 KOs) notes that Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) hasn't fought in three years and pulled out of his fight last year with an “old man's injury” for his scheduled comeback against Tim Tszyu. .
Thurman has been plagued by injuries since 2017, and it's anyone's guess whether his tired, fragile and aging body can withstand a grueling training camp to fight young Lion Jarvis on March 12.
Thurman-Jarvis will headline the 12-round contest at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia. It's an important fight for Thurman as he already has big things mapped out for him in 2025 and 2026, and he hopes to use the 27-year-old Jarvis (22-1, 20 KOs) as a springboard to get big money by fighting the Stars.
Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) has not fought since his 12-round unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios on February 5, 2022. That was a long, long time ago, and Thurman still doesn't physically resemble the young, spry fighter he was then. For someone who's been sitting on their couch watching TV and reading books for three years, Thurman can be a shadow of himself – food for Jarvis.
As we saw with Sugar Ray Leonard when he took a long six-year hiatus to take on Hector 'Macho' Camacho, Thurman could go on a losing streak.
Keith Thurman: “At 36, I still have a passion for sports. I am world champion twice. I love sports. I have fans all over the world, and it gives me a chance to get back to the sport of boxing, which I love,” said Keith Thurman. Fox Sports AustraliaTalking about his March 12th return against Brock Jarvis.
“It allows me to travel overseas to allow the fans to showcase my skills and talent in Australia so you can show the guys what's wrong when you're going to fight Keith Thurman and it's going to be an easy fight.
“You realize he (Brock Jarvis) didn't become a champion. You understand that Keith Thurman is not only a champion, I beat the champion and I schooled the last champion, Mario Barrios (in 2022). So, it's hard to impress me, but what I saw was a very lively fighter.
“I saw a man who was going to fight. He is an insider; He's going to come and bring the power punch to the table. When I was coming up I was notorious, I was a power puncher. It allows me to go back to my roots. Of course, my feet are always under me. I have a smart ring IQ that I can always bring to the table.
“As the promoter said. He knows on March 12th, there will be some fireworks from USA and Australia and on March 12th Life in Action. I am looking forward to it. This young man is in his prime at 27, and the fact that he's not Mexican, but he's got to have some cajon to get to me,” Thurman said.
Brock Jarvis: “He said there that he's a power puncher, but I know he hasn't scored a knockout in 10 years. He hasn't fought in three years. That is a long time at his age. For that, last year he was scheduled for a fight (Team Tszyu) and hit an old man, pulled with a torn bicep. So, I'm a little worried that he might not show up. I'll feel a little bit better when he comes here and on Australian soil.”
