Shakur Stevenson says he wants to talk to Gervonta Davis on the phone and convince him to fight him without getting promoters involved.
Stevenson prefers to try to arrange a fight with Terence Crawford against Errol Spence in 2023. However, Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) doesn't think Garvonta will go along with the idea because he “has some *** against me.”
The truth is that Tank Runner doesn't like, and Shakur doesn't belong in this era. His old-fashioned, archaic Mayweather style belongs to a bygone era.
It could be that Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) is put off by Shakur's desperate obsession with him, his name-dropping in interviews, the hustle to promote his fights and being a non-entertaining fighter. In a fight between them, Davis will be a draw and Shakur will be there as a cardboard prop.
If Shakur could have made a name for himself by beating quality fighters and staying in the pocket for trades instead of running, he wouldn't have needed to beg Garvonta for a fight. Repeatedly fighting to be boring makes Shakur one of the lowest echelons of the caste in terms of boxing. He is ineligible for King Tank's presence.
Shakur needs change
– Stay in pocket
– Stop running
– Take risks
– Face better opposition
“I said, 'Let's fight.' What more do you want from me?” Shakur Stevenson told Sean Porter YouTube Channel about asking Garvonta 'Tank' Davis for a fight. “When I went and did it with Devin, I was chasing. Now, I go and do the same kind of thing with Tank and they'll say, 'He's chasing. He's jealous.'
“We are in a new generation. These people these days, they've got all these narratives. I said, 'Let's fight.' I said, 'Send the contract, we can do it.' I am not delusional (person). I'm not out there to say anything.
“I'm not going to act like an A-side and I deserve 50-50 (for the tank fight). Brother, let's discuss and see where it goes from there. I know I'm the B-side, but let's fight,” Shakur said.
Stevenson sounds vague, thinking that all he has to do is say, “Let's fight,” for a fight against Garvonta. That's not how it's done. He needs to fight better opponents, stop the run, look better and stop the fans from booing him 24/7. If all contestants had to say, “Let's fight” for a chance to meet the king, everyone would. That's not how it goes.
If Shakur wants to take a shortcut to fight Garvonta, he'll have to do something daring, like the Knights and the days of King Arthur. He needs to move up to 154 and beat either Bakhram Murtzaliev or Virgil Ortiz Jr. If Stevenson does that, his popularity will shoot through the roof and he will have no problem fighting tanks.

“I think it is,” Shakur said, adding that he and Garvonta are two big names, and this is the biggest fight. “Besides Terrence and Canelo, the biggest fight is me and Tank. It's not on me. I am not A-side. I admit I'm the b-side.
“That's how it happened with Terence and Errol,” Stevenson said of Terence Crawford and Errol Spence talking one-on-one on the phone, without a publicist, agreeing to fight. “It was a great way. I'll be disappointed with it, but the dude (Tank Davis) has some complaints against me.
“Something about me. I would be willing to do that. Discuss, talk, sit with each other. I would be willing to do it, mine. It won't happen, though. I'm open to it. It will never happen. It won't happen because of him. ,” Shakur said of not wanting to talk to Gervanta.
“Yeah, sure,” Shakur said, adding that he wants a tank fight 'a million percent'. “Me and the tank, that's the focus. This is the biggest fight in boxing. That's the fight that's going to pay me big. Gave him a lot of money. He's going to do more with me than anyone else. My focus is the tank. Me and Tank had to fight,” Shakur said when asked if he was interested in fighting his good friend, Keyshawn Davis.
