Costco Teamsters vote to authorize strike


Eighteen thousand Costco Teamsters are set to strike unless a “fair contract offer” is presented by the end of the month.

According to a press release Sunday, 85 percent of Costco Teamsters in the U.S. voted to authorize a strike. Tensions rose during the week as the Teamsters staged several pickets Posts related to Costco on his social media.

“From day one, we told Costco that our members would not work a day after Jan. 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement,” said Teamsters President Sean M. O'Brien.

“Costco's greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing. If they refuse, our members will have no one to blame but themselves when they go on strike,” O'Brien continued.

“The final week of negotiations begins on January 20,” said Team X.

Practice pickets were held in California, Washington, and Long Island to “prepare for a potential strike.”

Hundreds included San Diego The Teamsters said they were preparing to mobilize a large practice picket through Thursday.

Costco's first location opened in 1976 under the name Price Club “in a converted airplane hangar on Morena Boulevard in San Diego.” says the retail giant's website. Today, membership warehouse club is “a multi-billion dollar global retailer with warehouse club operations in eight countries.”

Costco did not immediately respond to FOX Business' request for comment.

“We are the backbone of Costco,” said Bryan Fields, a Costco employee and Teamsters Local 570 member in Baltimore. “We manage it is successful and profitable. Hopefully the company will step up and do right by us, but if they don't, that's on them. The company will shoot itself.”
