Keyshawn Davis posted a photo on Instagram today of him posing face-to-face with his best friend Shakur Stevenson, asking fans if this is a fight they want to see. WBC lightweight champion Shakur already said this week that he “ever” Keyshawn fight for no money.
During the face-off, Keyshon looked like a big welterweight standing next to the average-sized lightweight Stevenson. I don't know how Davis can make 135, as big as he is, but I understand why he chooses to fight in this weight class. It's easy pickings, given his massive welterweight size.
Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) is using fake hype to get people talking about him. He will next month fight WBO lightweight champion Denis Berinchyk on February 14 at the Hula Theater in Madison Square Garden, New York. The event will be shown live on ESPN+. There is no buzz about a Davis fight against Berinchyk because the fans are not interested in it. Kishun chose the weakest link to fight for a world title instead of showing courage and going after other champions.
The Fight That Won't Happen
It's too bad Keyshawn and Shakur won't fight because it means an undisputed lightweight champion when the two compete in the same division and refuse to mix it up. It is assumed that Keyshawn can capture the WBO title against Berinchyk because if he loses that fight against the weakest link, he will never win a world title at 135. Keyshawn already looks too big for the lightweight division like a true welterweight.
I understand his rush, dropping down to fight the smaller guys at 135 rather than fighting Jaron 'Boots' Ennis where he should be at 147. Keyshawn doesn't stand a chance against Boots, and probably none of the other belt holders in the welterweight division. He is like a fish that can live only in certain waters. You take the fish out of its habitat, and it cannot stay. Take that to the tee.
“Is that what you all want?” Keeshon Davis took to Instagram to talk about the fight between him and his friend Shakur Stevenson.
