The NYSE, Nasdaq will close on January 9 for a national day of mourning following the death of Jimmy Carter


The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq markets will be closed on January 9 to observe a national day of mourning for the late President Jimmy Carter.

NYSE, NYSE American Equities, NYSE American Options, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE Arca Options, NYSE Chicago and NYSE National will be closed on Jan. 9 in honor of the former president, the NYSE said Monday.

All Nasdaq US stock and options markets Nasdaq also said it would close that day the same way.

Carter, who served in the White House from 1977 to 1981, died on Sunday. He was 100 years old.
