Demetrius Andrade thinks Canelo Alvarez is too big, strong and technical for Terence Crawford to step up to super middleweight and challenge him for his three titles the way he is pushing.

Very big, very strong

Andrade, a former two-division world champion, thinks moving up two weight classes from 154 is too much for the 37-year-old Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) to have a chance to defeat the WBA, WBC, and WBO 168. -lb champion Canelo (62-2-2, 39 KOs).

Crawford, a Nebraska native, is campaigning to move up to 168 to fight Canelo with no experience in the first weight class. He just wants a world title shot without getting ahead of himself by defeating top contenders waiting in line like David Morel, David Benavidez, Christian Mbili, and Diego Pacheco.

It wouldn't be a problem if Terrence was willing to beat the four fighters standing in front of him to earn a title shot, but he doesn't want to. He wants Canelo to fix him based on his credentials in other weight classes.

If you look at Crawford's résumé, there's nothing more to look at than car crashes, beating injury-ravaged Errol Spence. The other semi-decent win on Crawford's resume came against Israel Madrimov, but he nearly lost to him and looked poor all night eating right hands.

Last summer on August 3rd, Crawford moved up to 154 and won a narrow 12-round unanimous decision over Madrimov. It was a fight that Terence could have easily lost had Madrimov stepped on the accelerator in the final three rounds of throwing potshots. Even in defeat, Madrimov made Crawford look old and made it clear he had reached his ceiling. He can't go from 154 to 160 or 168 without losing.

Canelo's advantage

“Skills too. Canelo is not a pushover. Look what he did to the little girl, (Jermel) Charlo. Charlo was the big bad wolf and he ran a few hooks all night. Canelo threw a few hooks, and he ran all night. Where is that (intensity and boldness)? let's fight

“I think Crawford has the skills, but when it comes to taking shots and blocking them, power shots, and Canelo knows how to move. He has agility. He is not like a robot. It's going to be hard. My opinion is my opinion. I don't think Crawford can beat Canelo,” Andrade said.

Crawford is too small to fight Canelo at 168. The fight will only be about money, and it will be similar to when Canelo defended his super middleweight title against Jermael Charlo in September last year. Jermel moved up from 154 and was given a title shot against Canelo without proving himself.

He ran all night after feeling Canelo's power in the first round, and the fans were torn afterward. It was a joke. If Jermael had tried to prove himself by fighting Benavidez or Morel, he would have gone out with a one-sided loss or a knockout loss, and the fans wouldn't have been confused to see him go to Canelo. In the real world, Crawford needs to earn a title shot against Canelo like any other contender, but he's looking for a shortcut to getting a huge payday. It is sad and wrong for the sport.

“Do I think he can give him a good fight? I'll be sitting there for Crawford all day,” Andrade said of Crawford. “I'm always going to bet Black, always, but the fact of the matter is Canelo knows how to fight. He knows how to get big, and he knows how to shoot hard.

“He's also a technical guy. Look what he did to Callum Smith—hitting the elbow, hitting the arm, hitting all sorts of other things. He's going to use the same trick on a smaller guy (Crawford). I'm just saying. I'm just talking about real boxing events. I'm not trying to live in this fantasy world because that's not who I am,” Andrade said.
