Demetrius Andrade questions whether WBA 'regular' light heavyweight champion David Morell has a long enough arm around David Benavidez's guard when they meet at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 1st.

In their fight last year, Benavidez had trouble landing shots through his guard due to his long arms and was eventually stopped in the sixth round. He was surprised by the sheer size of Benavidez, and he was too big for him.

Cuban Morel is more limited than Benavidez, 78″ compared to his 74″, so he shouldn't have the same problems that Andrade did. Demetrius began his professional career at 154 and moved to 168 in 2023. He only fought once in the weight class against Daymond Nicholson before facing Benvidez.

Benavidez's reach, weight and youth seem to give Andre problems. He looked too heavy, like a light heavyweight or cruiserweight fighting a middleweight.

“Because he was a big, strong guy, he was able to absorb it. He weighed a lot more than me,” Demetrius told Andrade. Fight Hub TV Regarding his loss to David Benavidez on November 25, 2023.

“After that fight (Benavidez vs. Oleksandr Govozdyk at 175), he said, 'I can still make 168,' because he felt the weight difference. He (Benavidez) couldn't do what he can do when he's not a wet bully.

“Now, he's in a good match against David Morrell. It is the same size as two boys. I think David Morrell is genius. I don't know if he actually has the experience of losing David. (morel) is a big kid. He has decent speed, but he's a little wild with his punches. It definitely comes with experience.”

Benavidez did not look good in his debut at 175 last summer against Oleksandr Govozdyk on June 15th and the powerful fighter was punched throughout the fight. His strength seemed weak in the weight, and he was lucky to make a decision. If Gvozdyk was a more popular fighter, he would have been awarded the win because he landed better shots.

Can Morrell adapt?

“David (Benavidez) has long arms. Morel is older than me,” Andrade said. “When you're throwing punches at him (Benavidez), his arms are so long that it's hard to hit him. You have to mark your shot against him. I don't know if Morel has that.

“I'm a sharpshooter, and David was able to block a lot of shots from me with his length. So, you have to set him up with some clean, walking trap shots,” Andrade said
