Oscar De La Hoya roasted manager Bill Haney on this week's episode of Clapback Thursday, saying he messed up his son Devin Haney's career by suing Ryan Garcia for battery after a loss in Brooklyn, New York last April.

De La Hoya says Devin needs to take control of his life and “fire” Bill. He feels he ruined a promising career for the former two-division world champion with his decision-making.

Oscar says the lawsuit and Devin's decision to stay inactive for a full year made his defeat worse. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) could have bounced back from that loss by now if he had gotten back in the ring instead of sitting on his loss.

According to De La Hoya, Haney must win his fight against Jose Ramirez on May 2 to earn a rematch against Ryan in October.

If that's true, there will be a lot of pressure on Devin when he faces former WBC and WBO 140-lb champion Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) in their co-feature bout on the undercard of Ryan Garcia vs. Rolando. 'Rally' Romero in Times Square, New York City.

“I feel sorry for Devin Haney because you rarely hear him talk because his dad does all the talking,” Oscar De La Hoya said during This Week Clapback Thursday. “Obviously, Devin had a bad loss this year, but it shouldn't have been career-ending. It could easily be fixed.

“If it wasn't for his father and manager Bill, who single-handedly turned it into a more toxic situation than Kornobil. I have never seen such a big f*** for a boxer's career in my life. After losing to Ryan Garcia last April, all Devin had to do was say, 'He's beating me. I couldn't block his left hook,' and then went back to the gym.

“Instead of focusing on a comeback fight in 2024 and teaching his son to block left hooks, Bill thought it would be a better idea to sue Devin Ryan for battery and emotional distress, sue Golden Boy, sue the New York Athletic Commission. Loss of Devin To erase his record, fight a civilian at the Orange Country State Fair, take the rest of the year off and earn as many enemies as possible. They are the greatest in boxing history cemented their legacy as crybabies.

“Now, last week, Bill and Devin were in London, begging Turki for a salary because they had no other option. Devin's only value in this game is to fight Ryan Garcia again. So, Bill, the pimp that he is, took his son back to the fighter who was beating him so badly he had to sue him for battery. I can't shoot this up, folks.

“The rematch (Garcia-Haney) will happen this October but on one condition. The Haneys must drop their bull case against Ryan Garcia and Golden Boy. Of course, the Haneys were willing to drop it because they had no case. I've never heard of a fighter suing another fighter for battery and I'm sure we'll never see it again unless Devin sues his next opponent.

“However, taking a rematch is a risky move because if Devin loses to Ryan again, we can all say goodbye to Hannis. In order for Devin to reach that fight, he will have to face a tough and hungry Jose Ramirez in May. Be careful, Jose. If you hit him too hard, he may sue you later.

“Devin Haney, from one fighter to another, you need to take control of your life and career and fire your father. Everyone in boxing stood back and watched what happened this year, the year you were supposed to shine. You are now a punchline. Everyone sees that problem. He (Bill) didn't even stop fighting Ryan Garcia when your jaw was broken and you were on the canvas.

“I hope you can come to your senses and decide to save yourself and part ways with your current manager before it's too late. Sadly, this may already be the case,” De La Hoya said.
