Walmart is refreshing its logo for the first time in nearly two decades, highlighting its evolution while also serving as a nod to its past. big box retailer announced on Monday.

The wordmark in the redesigned logo is inspired by founder Sam Walton's classic trucker hat and features a bold and dark blue font, the company said. The logo also retains the iconic yellow spark, which takes on a subtle freshness of its own.

“Building on the legacy of our founder Sam Walton, this update demonstrates our evolving capabilities and long-term commitment to serving our customers of today and tomorrow,” said William White, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. Walmart USA “While the look and feel of our brand is more contemporary, our refreshed brand identity reflects both Walmart's commitment to Sam's principles and serving our customers when they need us.”

The company said the brand refresh will “help Walmart build credibility and relatability.”

“As our customers grow, so do we,” White said. “Our Walmart will always be their Walmart, and our brand will always be a testament to how we innovate and change with them.”

Walmart plans to roll out the update internally website, app and in stores It starts in January 2025 and continues throughout the year.

Walmart last redesigned its logo in 2008, when the company dropped the star used to hyphenate the word “Wal-Mart” and made it one word. It also incorporated a yellow spark.

This was reported by Walmart third quarter earnings rose more than 5% to $169.6 billion from the previous quarter, beating Wall Street's estimate of $167.72 billion. Adjusted earnings per share also beat Wall Street estimates by 5 cents.
