Promoter Frank Warren called Tyson Fury and Alexander Usyk “two of the best heavyweights of the 21st century.”
However, that's hard to believe, as Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) doesn't have the resume to back up that claim. In fact, the eye test shows he's not even among the fifth-best of the division's current heavyweights.
Tyson was just an overrated, carefully packaged hype act. If you look at Fury's resume, there's nothing to suggest he's even among the top 20 heavyweights of this century. Throw him in with some of the more talented competitors from this era or past and he falls apart.
If you look back at the beginning of the 21st century, from 2001 to 2012 many heavyweights would have beaten Fury if he had fought them. This century began in 2001.
21st Century Heavyweights:
– Vitali Klitschko
– Lennox Lewis
– Wladimir Klitschko: *Young version from 2001 to 2009
– Corey Sanders
– Shannon Briggs
– Martin Bacall
– Musa Itauma
– Joseph Parker
– Jhilei Zhang
– Anthony Joshua
– Bakhodir water greed
– Daniel Dubois
– Jared Anderson
Fury would have lost to most, if not all, of those heavyweights. You can only imagine what South Africa is like Corey Sanders Those who have to fury with the left hand. The version of Sanders that knocked out Wladimir in the second round in 2003 will make Fury's job easier. He would have left the Jispy King in a heap of broken flesh on the canvas.
The Gypsy King's career was basically built in 2015 by beating a tired 39-year-old Wladimir, and it wasn't an impressive performance either. He just beat the gunman, shot Klitschko to pieces. From there, Fury created a gold mine, thanks to careful matchmaking.
Fury's Best Wins:
Wladimir Klitschko: *39 and over-the-hill
Deontay Wilder
Dillion White: *Journeyman
Derek Chisora: *Same as above
Otto Wallin
Francis Ngannou: *0-0 rookie
Steve Cunningham: *Cruiserweight
Christian Hammer: Fringe Contender
Kevin Johnson: *Journeyman
Frank Warren on Sky Sports Boxing said of Tyson Fury, “He's a great guy and certainly him and Usyk are two of the best heavyweights of the 21st century, that's for sure. “Look at their great fight. Those two fights, both were incredible. Regardless of what you thought it was. Won, those were incredible fights.
“It takes two fighters to make a great fight. Tyson is up there with all the great names you can mention. He did everything you could ask of him. He was never on a dull flight. All the fights you look back on, they were classic fights, dramatic. The drama in these fights is amazing,” Warren said, sounding like he was going a bit overboard with his Fury praise.
