Shakur Stevenson thinks Turki Al-Sheikh will have a mega-fight between him and Garvonta 'Tank' Davis in 2025 after meeting the Baltimore native. Tanks for war are going to have a high price tag. He has already said he wants $150 million to fight Ryan Garcia. He could seek a similar amount to fight the undisputed Stevenson.
Stevenson believes Al-Sheikh will make it worthwhile for Tank (30-0, 28 KOs) if he wants to fight him. The decision will determine whether Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) wins his next fight against Floyd Schofield next month in Riyadh on February 22.
Another bad showing for Stevenson could sink his chances for a fight against Davis because the last thing he wants to fight is a runner unwilling to stand up and engage.
Assuming the judges will give him a decision, Shakur uses his hit-and-run style to try to win points. He almost lost to Edwin de los Santos, and we saw him chase and beat Robisi Ramirez around the ring at the Olympics.
“He is a good man. I'm glad I got the chance to meet him. I appreciate him for the opportunity, and now I can show who I am,” Shakur Stevenson said Pro boxing fan Turki Al-Sheikh is about to put him on his February 22 card against Floyd Schofield in Riyadh.
“Tell him, 'Don't run,'” Stevenson said of his message to Schofield ahead of their fight next month. “He can try for the knockout early. Once he realizes he can't get it, then he's going to get on the back foot.
“I think it's going to be a great fight. I think he (the Turk) is saving boxing. So, once Tank meets him, I think the fight will happen,” Shakur said of his belief that Turki Al-Sheikh will put up a fight between him and Gervanta Davis after meeting the Baltimore native.
“He sounds like a businessman. I think he wants to make as much money as possible in the sport of boxing. It's good for him,” Shakur said, adding that Tank wants $150 million for his rematch with Ryan Garcia to make it happen.
In recent workouts, WBC lightweight champion Shakur has been using only his left hand and gently tapping with his surgically repaired right hand.
That fragile facade on Floyd's face could crumble almost immediately if he pressured him in the first round. Stevenson will have no choice but to try to shut down the ambitious Golden Boy-promoted Schofield.
If he were to fight the 22-year-old Schofield (18-0, 12 KOs) with only one weapon, he would be forced to run all night to avoid being overwhelmed by the young man's power shots.
