Ryan Garcia says he will fight Teofimo Lopez when he returns to the ring this year after his suspension expires. This goes along with what Garcia's publicist Oscar de la Hoya is saying
Oscar said there's no point in Ryan fighting Devin Haney again because he's already “destroyed” him. He says the fight he wants for Garcia is WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo (21-1, 13 KOs), who has no opponent after choosing not to defend against Subriel Matias.
Teofimo's career has stalled since losing to George Kambossos Jr. in 2021. Although he won the WBO 140-lb title from a beaten Josh Taylor in 2023, he looked awful in fights against Steve Claggett, Jamaine Ortiz and Sandor Martin. .
It's clear that Top Rank misjudged Teofimo and should have dropped him instead of giving him an extension after his loss to Kambossos. He hasn't improved since that loss.
Garcia said he would “take it out” with Haney, but he would have to drop the case against him. Haney hasn't said whether he will, but his recent comments suggest he won't. Unfortunately, this leaves him high and dry, but he still has Turki al-Sheikh. He still believes in her and will help her this year.
If Devin loses once or twice this year, Turk will get a clue and probably release him. He will realize that he is not worth artificially advancing with time and money. Turkey better release Hani sooner rather than later as he is a lost cause.
“I will be ready for whatever happens. Looks like I'm going to fight Teofimo Lopez. So, it's good. I saw him today. He's a little weird, but other than that, I'm ready to give him a **whoop,” Ryan Garcia said Second out Regarding his next fight with Teofimo Lopez.
“I don't know. You have to wait and see,” Ryan said when asked about his fight with Teofimo. “But after I fight him, I will be the first to fight the three so-called 'Four Kings'. I am the only one among them who has fought all of them. Tank, Devin and Teofimo Lopez.
“I'm actually throwing it out here with everyone. It seems like everyone is scared or whatever is going on here
“Not for me,” Ryan said when asked if it was important to fight Devin Haney again so his win could be tainted and stripped by the New York State Athletic Commission due to his positive drug test. “Fighting Teofimo Lopez would be just as satisfying as me rematching Devin.”
Ryan will get more credit for beating Haney Teofimo at this point, as he has already beaten his brakes. He was beating Haney around the ring from the first round.
Few would give Hany much of a chance in a rematch with Garcia after the way he whipped him last April.
The boxing public will be very interested in a Garcia vs Teofimo fight as the two have never fought before. The WBO 140-lb belt will be at stake, and Teofimo could do his part to promote the fight. In Devin's case, he relies on his father, Bill, to do a lot of the work to generate interest. That doesn't work as well.
“Again, I'm not saying I won't. I would have thrown with him (Haney) again, but they had to stop all this crap (except the case) before I got there,” Garcia said.
Haney and Bill don't seem to be planning to drop the case. They seem to be dug in and are likely to fight their suits to the bitter end, even though they'll be shooting themselves in the foot doing so.
