Promoter Oscar De La Hoya says he sees no “need” for Ryan Garcia to rematch Devin Haney. He says that Garcia already “destroyed” Haynie in their fight last year, and that there are better fighters for him like Teofimo Lopez.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) continues to whine about his loss and blames Ryan for testing positive for the banned substance Ostarine. He is using this as an excuse for his loss failure.
If Devin really believes this, it's surprising that he would want a rematch. If he thinks that Garcia A “Deceiver“
The way Haney trashed Ryan, he should be forgotten out of principle. If Canelo Alvarez gets trashed by someone who constantly beats him, that would be it. Kingry should follow his lead.
During De La Hoya's career, he wouldn't give a fighter a rematch if he beat them as well as Ryan Haney did. Oscar will move on and not fight an unnecessary rematch.
Obviously, the money that Haney will get fighting the other guys won't be as good as it would be in a rematch. Ryan (24-1, 20 KOs) is a star and no one can fight Haney at 140 or 147 that comes close to him.
De La Hoya is right that Garcia doesn't need a rematch because he whipped Haney hard. There's more money for Ryan to fight these guys:
Gervonta Davis
Teofimo Lopez
Jaron Ennis
Shakur Stevenson
“If Ryan Garcia wants it and he wants it,” Oscar De La Hoya said Fight Hub TV When asked what he thinks about a Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney rematch in 2025. “I personally, I see no need for it. Ryan destroyed himAnd that's the bottom line.
“We have to fight the best we can. Here are warriors like Teofimo. There are fighters that we can match Ryan with anyone and make a terrific event.
“Yes, absolutely. If they (Ryan and Teofimo) are the best at the moment, and that's what people want to see, we've got to make it. I sound like a broken record here, but I was once a fighter. I'm a promoter now, but I want to see the best fight the best,” said De La Hoya
