Gervonta Davis showed off his blind arm moves today, working on the mitts with his trainer Barry Hunter, as he prepares for his WBA lightweight belt title defense against Lamont Roach on March 1 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Meets Master

Davis looks great in the meets, but that's too much because his opponent, super featherweight Roach, has no power and is overmatched in this fight. It would be nice if Tank acted like a dog and fought someone with real talent. Then you'll be eager to see him hit the mitts, but when it's not another cherry-pick like the rest of Davis' carefully managed 12-year pro career.

That's a mediocre bunch right there, and none of them are relevant lightweight fighters, not one. So, it's great that Tank Davis is outstanding at hitting the mitts, but it's not worth it when you're facing marginal opposition for $75 on PPV. Such fights should be free because they are matches intended not to be matched.

Tank's form looked a lot like that of his former promoter, Floyd Mayweather Jr., in his meet workouts. But the two of them couldn't be more different in fighting style. Thankfully, Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) is far more entertaining than Floyd Jr.

Still, Tank is a lot like Mayweather with his cherry picking in addition to his meet workouts. Floyd has been the best in his career at picking them up and getting away from dangerous predators. Now, Tank is following its safety-first blueprint.

Where is the challenge?

Fans want to see the tank knockout Roach (25-1-1, 15 KOs) and then start fighting opponents he has a chance to beat. Davis or his management mostly picked fighters where he was the heavy favorite.
