Sam Goodman suffered an eye injury and will have to pull out of his January 24th fight against Unified Super Bantamweight Champion Nawa 'Monster' Inoue. The two fighters were scheduled to fight at the Ariake Arena in Koto-ku, Tokyo, Japan.
#1 IBF and WBO ranked contender Goodman's No Limit Boxing promoters reported that “his eye injury has recurred.” They did not say when Goodman (19-0, 8 KOs) will be healthy enough to reschedule the fight against the undefeated Inoue (28-0, 25 KOs).
If injuries keep Goodman on the shelf for an extended period of time, Eno will have to decide whether to quit fighting him and move up or sit back and wait. Not a big fight that fans outside of Australia are interested in watching.
Fans want Inoue to face WBA interim champion Murodjon Akhmadaliev (13-1, 10 KOs) as a replacement because it would be a talent upgrade. Akhmadaliv and his promoters have been pushing for a fight against Inoue for a long time without success.
This would be the ideal time. At this stage in his career, Inoue is out of pressure and does what he wants. He is the Canelo of the 122-lb division.
Repeat force withdrawal
“No Limit Boxing is sorry to announce that Sam Goodman has been forced to pull out of his scheduled fight against Nawa Inoue on January 24 due to a recurrence of his eye injury.
We wish Sam a full and speedy recovery and will provide updates on events in due course.”
