Jermall Charlo is back in the gym, training for his return to the ring in 2025.

The former undisputed junior middleweight champion, Charlo (35-2-1, 19 KOs), has been resting for the past 15 months following a comprehensive 12-round loss to IBF, WBA, WBC, and WBO 168-lb champion Canelo Alvarez. Unanimous decision on a non-attempt on September 30, 2023.

Fans joked on social media that 34-year-old Charlo Canelo spent the estimated $20 million paycheck he received for the fight. Charlo didn't disclose his total earnings; He made the right decision to resume his career. Jermel could make a lot of money if he fights on Turki Al-Sheikh's card in Riyadh.

The 154-pound division has gotten a lot better over the past year as Charlo has held four belts in that weight class, and now it's doubtful he can beat any of the top fighters. He's been out too long, and there are more talented guys at the top now than there were when Jermel held the belt.

It will be interesting to fans if Al-Sheikh offers Jermel a fight against one of these talents:

If you're Turkish, the easiest fight to put together would be Jermel against IBF champion Murtzaliev. Crawford won't agree to fight Charlo unless he's offered big money, possibly more than what he received for his match against Madrimov on August 3rd.

Most of these fighters would beat the version of Jermall that lost to Canelo and fought against Brian Castano and Tony Harrison. Again, the 154-lb division has changed and gotten a lot better. Charlo turns 35 on May 19, and that's not young for any weight class.

If Charlo comes back, he needs to be active instead of fighting once and then disappearing for a year. He has been fighting on an annual basis since 2020. He didn't fight in 2024, resting after getting a big payday against Canelo.
