Coach Greg Hackett says a victory for Terence Crawford against Canelo Alvarez in 2025 would make him the best fighter of the last 30 years.
If Crawford is seen as the best fighter of the last 30 years for beating Canelo in his prime, it would be overlooking the many great fighters who have done much more than him.
We already know how Crawford will use Canelo to pick fights Mayweather's blueprint Hit and run he's not going to stand up to Canelo and trade shots.
Terence will play it safe and make the fight boring the whole time. Fans will be outraged for wasting their money by ordering fights on PPVs.
Hackett already sees Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) as the #1 pound-for-pound for holding world titles in four divisions and being undisputed in two weight classes. It's hard to disagree with Hackett because Crawford's wins in those four categories weren't against anyone special.
If you've watched Canelo's last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia, you know he's past his prime at 34 years old. He is showing age in his 19th year as a professional The first two fights against Gennadiy Golovkin took a lot out of Canelo and he hasn't looked the same since.
Crawford only Another Adrien Broner Broner also held world titles in four weight classes during that time, but his resume was as weak as Bud's. It shows you how four alphabet titles have been watered down for fighters to capture the belt with their slick promoters.
Bud's best win
– Israel Madrimov
– Errol Spence
– Sean Porter
“Kale Brook.”
– Aamir Khan
– Euryorchis gamboa
– Ricky Barnes
– Victor Postol
You'd have to be easy to think those were good enough wins to make Crawford the #1 p-4-p or best fighter of the last 30 years. Based on these wins, I can only say that his promoters matched Crawford very carefully.
They are not enough fighters to beat Crawford because they were mostly over the hill when they fought them. Madrymov was the only one not shot and came close to defeating Crawford in his 12th pro fight.
If Crawford had lost to the 34-year-old Canelo, it wouldn't have made him the best in the past 30 years because he wouldn't have compiled the same number of wins as the former six-division world champion. Oscar de la Hoya or eight division champions Manny Pacquiao have done during their careers. Those two are the best.
You can't include Crawford because he fought a weaker opponent, and the same with Floyd Mayweather Jr. 'Money May' was very selective with the opponents he fought and spent too much time cherry-picking to protect his precious oak. Floyd was the catalyst for this generation of cherry pickers. He was a teacher.
“Tank's a beast, but I think pound for pound, Bud (Crawford) is #1. A lot of times people doubted him. They doubted him against (Errol) Spence. They doubted him against (Israel) Madrimov. Some say He was too young. I heard them,” Greg Hackett said YSM Sports Media About his belief that Terence Crawford should be #1 pound for pound.
“When he fought Victor Postol, he (Crawford) was very young. When he (Euriorkis) fought Gamboa, he didn't know enough. There was a lot of s***. If he beats Canelo, he's the worst motherfucker in the last 30 years,” Hackett said of Terence.
“Right now in the game, it's got to be Bud, and then maybe Inoue later,” Hackett continued of his belief that Crawford should be the #1 pound-for-pound in the game. “Buds, people don't get it. He was already being counted out. He kept winning and losing a lot.
It's too early to say if Crawford will fight Canelo in 2025 Nothing is official yet, and there's a good chance Canelo turns down that fight This is a no-win type of match for Canelo, as Crawford gets more out of it than he does. If he beats Crawford, there's no real gain. Crawford beating Canelo would be huge, and the payday would be huge. Money alone is a victory for Crawford.
“The tank has always been a 130, 135-pounder. People try to say the tank was a 126-pounder,” Hackett said. “I fought a few cards with the tank. He never did 126 . I mean Bud was punching the s*** at 135, 140, 147 and only won a belt at 154.
“A champion at 135, undisputed at 140 and 147, right? Then won another belt at 154. He's still undefeated,” Hackett said of Crawford. “A lot of steps up, a lot of guys that were supposed to beat him. A lot of guys that were supposed to be too big for him. Too fast, too strong. This one was supposed to be too experienced, And he beat them all, giving Gamboa his first loss.
Again, winning world titles in four divisions doesn't mean Crawford is great because he hasn't beaten anyone to win his four division titles.
Crawford won four-division titles
– Israel Madrimov: 154
– Jeff Horn: 147
– Thomas Dullorme: 140
– Ricky Barnes: 135
